The Earl-Bishop's Coast: Castlerock & Downhill

📍 Derry🚶 8 stops🚶️ 3.51km⌛ ~70 min

Start at Castlerock's Victorian railway station and long sandy beach, then follow Bishop's Road through the wooded Black Glen into Downhill Demesne. Enter past the Earl-Bishop's gates to reach the roofless ruin of Downhill House, the memorial mausoleum to his brother, and finish at Mussenden Temple, still perched on its eroding clifftop above the Atlantic. One 18th-century bishop, Frederick Hervey, built almost everything on this route. Looking for things to do in Castlerock & Downhill? Start here — no car, no ticket, no booking.
