The short version: We do not store your photos, your location, or any personal data. Images are processed instantly and discarded. We use no tracking cookies. We collect no analytics. The past speaks โ and then forgets.
Who We Are
If The Past Could Talk is operated by Teacher Space Limited, a company incorporated in Ireland. Our registered address is in Dublin, Ireland.

What Data We Process
When you use If The Past Could Talk, the following data is processed:
- Photos you upload: Sent to Anthropic's Claude AI API for visual analysis. Processed instantly. Not stored by us or retained by Anthropic beyond the single API call.
- GPS location: Used only in-session to match your physical location to heritage sites. Never logged, never stored, never transmitted to us.
- EXIF metadata: GPS coordinates embedded in your photo files are read locally in your browser. They are used solely to identify your location and are never transmitted separately or stored.
- AI-generated text: Sent to ElevenLabs for voice synthesis. Processed immediately. Not retained.
Cookies and Local Storage
We use browser localStorage (not cookies) for two purposes only:
- Recording that you accepted this privacy notice (one value: yes/no)
- Counting the number of summons used in the current session (for the paywall)
We use no tracking cookies, no advertising cookies, no third-party analytics, and no cross-site tracking of any kind.
We do keep simple aggregate usage counts โ for example, how many worksheets were generated today, or how many people opened the trail map this week. These are anonymous running totals only: no IP address, device ID, cookie, or any other identifier is stored, and there is no way to trace a count back to an individual visitor. This is used purely so we know whether the app is being used, not to track anyone.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to deliver the app:
- Anthropic (Claude AI): Visual identification and historical storytelling. Anthropic Privacy Policy
- ElevenLabs: Text-to-speech voice synthesis. ElevenLabs Privacy Policy
- Microsoft Azure Cognitive Services: Text-to-speech voice synthesis for Irish-language (Gaeilge) narration. Microsoft Privacy Statement
- Cloudflare: API proxy and hosting. Cloudflare Privacy Policy
- Payhip: Payment processing for passes. Payhip Privacy Policy
- Google Fonts: Typography. Fonts are loaded from Google's CDN. Google Privacy Policy
- Wikimedia Commons: A small number of landmark photographs are fetched directly from Wikimedia Commons' public API to illustrate the homepage and information pages. This is a standard anonymous, cookie-free API call โ no data about you is sent beyond what any web request includes. Wikimedia Privacy Policy
Children's Privacy
If The Past Could Talk is suitable for use by children aged 13 and over, including as an educational tool for Junior Cycle History students. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. The app does not require account creation or personal information submission.
School use is governed by the school's own data protection policy and the terms agreed with Teacher Space Limited.
Your Rights Under GDPR
As we do not store personal data, most GDPR rights (access, erasure, portability) are satisfied automatically โ there is nothing to retrieve or delete. However, you have the right to:
- Request confirmation that we hold no data about you
- Lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commission (Ireland): dataprotection.ie

Data Transfers
API calls are processed via Cloudflare's global network and Anthropic's US-based infrastructure. Anthropic participates in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. ElevenLabs is based in the United States and processes data under standard contractual clauses. Irish-language voice synthesis via Microsoft Azure Cognitive Services is processed in Microsoft's West Europe data region.
Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. We will not collect new categories of data without updating this policy and re-seeking consent where required.
