By accessing or using If The Past Could Talk (the "Service"), whether at ifthepastcouldtalk.com or through any linked app, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

What The Service Does

If The Past Could Talk provides AI-generated historical storytelling for heritage sites across Ireland and, where indicated, the United Kingdom. You can point your camera at a historical site or browse a heritage trail, and the Service will use AI to generate narrated stories, facts and worksheets about that site.

The Service is provided for educational and entertainment purposes. It is not a substitute for professional historical research, academic citation, or official heritage body documentation.

Accuracy of AI-Generated Content

Content is generated using Claude AI (Anthropic) and narrated using ElevenLabs voice synthesis, based on publicly available heritage records, historical sources and, in some cases, estimated or approximate site information. This content:

Where a site's GPS coordinates are marked as estimated rather than sourced from an official register, this is disclosed within the app. Estimated coordinates should not be relied upon for navigation to sensitive or restricted locations.

Age Requirement

By using this Service, you confirm that you are 13 years of age or older, or that you are using the Service under the supervision of a school, teacher or guardian as part of an educational programme.

Accounts and Access

The core Service does not require account creation. Certain features — including classroom licensing, extended worksheet generation, or trade/partner access — may require a purchased pass or a separate agreement with Teacher Space Limited.

Purchases, Passes and Refunds

Where the Service offers paid digital passes (for example, extended worksheet or booklet generation, or school licensing), the following applies:

Photos and User Content

When you use the camera-based site identification feature, your photo is sent to Claude AI for analysis and is not stored by us — see our Privacy Policy for full detail on how photos, GPS data and EXIF metadata are handled.

By submitting a photo, you confirm you have the right to share it and that it does not contain content that is unlawful, infringing, or otherwise inappropriate. Worksheet or booklet photos you choose to print or export remain your own property; we retain no copy once generated.

Intellectual Property

The If The Past Could Talk name, branding, trail curation, worksheet formats and app design are the property of Teacher Space Limited. Heritage facts and public records referenced within the Service are sourced under the open licences credited in the app's footer (including CC BY 4.0 and the UK Open Government Licence v3.0) and remain the property of their respective originating bodies.

AI-generated narration and story text is provided for your personal, educational or classroom use. You may not resell, republish at scale, or represent AI-generated content from this Service as your own original historical research without independent verification and attribution.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Service to:

Availability and Changes

The Service is provided on a best-efforts basis. Features, trail coverage, pricing and content may change, be added to, or be withdrawn at any time without prior notice. We aim to keep the trail map and worksheet tools available, but do not guarantee uninterrupted access.

Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including as to accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose.

Teacher Space Limited accepts no liability for decisions made, academic conclusions drawn, or actions taken based on AI-generated historical content, including estimated site coordinates. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under Irish law (including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud).

Termination

We may suspend or restrict access to the Service for any user found to be in breach of these Terms, including misuse of the acceptable-use provisions above.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Ireland. Any disputes arising from use of the Service are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ireland.

Changes to These Terms

If we make material changes to these Terms, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
